The evolution of Joseph Robertson has been a long and remarkable journey, from our foundation in 1878 to the present day. Although the business has grown dramatically, and advanced in to new segments of the food market, we still remain close to our roots and are proud to maintain the rich family heritage.
We have come a long way from starting out as a small primary fish processor in the early days, focussing on supplying fish from the Aberdeen Market to local establishments in the North East of Scotland, to now being one of the largest independent value added seafood manufactures in the UK.
Innovation and R&D have been key drivers in the businesses journey, allowing us to evolve as the market demands have changed. In 2016 Joseph Robertson was recognised at the Grampian Food Forum Innovation Awards for Investing in Skills development. It was an honour to be recognised at the Awards in 2016 for the time taken and investments we have made in regards to employee development.
The judges were particularly impressed by the excellent workforce development plan that has been put in place, encouraging active participation from staff to develop their skills. The focus has been to become ‘a learning business’ with an aspiration of a culture of improvement. The company have developed systems that can record the impact of the training investment and this has delivered significant benefits including increased staff retention, efficiency and profitability.
Joseph Robertson have been listed as finalists in the 2017 Scottish Food & Drink Excellence Awards in the category of Employer of the Year.
